FAREWELL CELEBRATION HONORING DENTON PRIEST

Saint Mark Catholic Church will hold a special celebration honoring the departing pastor, Reverend Eugene Sweeney, S.M. on Sunday, June 27th at 7:00PM with a pot luck supper.  Father Gene has served Denton’s St. Mark parish since July 1995.  His new assignment will take him to Eureka, Missouri near St. Louis where he will be assisting at the Marycliff Marianist Community and parishes in the surrounding area.

Before coming to Denton in 1995, Fr. Sweeney spent 10 years at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and 11 years at Nolan Catholic High School in Fort Worth.   During his 52 years as a Marianist, he has served many parishes and Marianist Communities throughout the United States and Canada.  In August, 2002, he celebrated the Golden Jubilee of His Religious Profession of Vows.  The Silver Jubilee of his Ordination to the Priesthood was celebrated in June, 2003.

St. Vincent DePaul House Building Project
We are in dire need of a St. Vincent DePaul house in Denton, Texas.  When the current church property was sold to the Denton Independent School District, the old house that was being used for the St. Vincent DePaul house was lost in the transaction.  Hundreds of families who use this facility on a weekly basis were left with no place to go for much needed food and clothing.

The Catholic Chamber of Commerce has answered Jesus’ call and is in the process of raising money for the construction of a new St. Vincent DePaul house on property donated by Immaculate Conception Church. You, as fellow Catholics have an opportunity to join with the Chamber and make this project a huge success.

A St. Vincent DePaul house is a much-needed ministry in this area catering to all of the poor in this community.  The poor have counted on it for their needs for many years.

Please accept this as another way to “Love thy neighbor as thyself”, and join us in this much needed project.

The Catholic Chamber of Commerce is accepting donations.  A donation of $100.00 or more will include a one-year family membership in the Chamber.

Please make checks payable to:

………And a good time, make that a Great Time, was had by all.  The Catholic Chamber of Commerce enjoyed its first event this Saturday August 24th at the brand new Water Park in Denton, Texas.  As they say, a picture takes the place of a thousand words. If you look at the pictures of the faces of those who joined us for this gala event, you will see the excitement and fun.

This was a real Catholic family outing.  Moms, Dads, and kids alike all shared in the fun. The weather was perfect and the band was outstanding……for those who couldn’t attend, all I can say is sorry.  A word to the wise….don’t miss the next one!

The Catholic community lost a great priest this week when Fr. Bob Lewandowski passed away into the arms of our Lord on Tuesday August 12, 2003.  Fr. Bob was very inspirational  in the spiritual lives of many students at The University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.  He will be missed by St. Marks and Immaculate Conception parishes as well.
